Blue Jungle [US]

Blue Jungle - Baby Don't Cry 2009

"Psychocandy-style post-punk (plus Cramps, Mazzy, Brat and Wray) from the band that runs L'KEG gallery. Two-minute tunes with two girl singers and infinite reverb. They met in juvie and recorded this at home between hangovers. First press on black vinyl." -- (White Noise)

I really love this band introduced by Elisabeth , not typically post-punk, but plays great noise.

Lower Heaven [US]

Lower Heaven - Ashes 2008

With a haunting sound and ominously reverb drenched melodies, Lower Heaven live up to their name which they've taken from an Echo and the Bunnymen lyric. Absorbing and reinterpreting influences like My Bloody Valentine, Hawkwind, and the Jesus and Mary Chain, the band has been able to defy constraints of genre classification by keeping the song writing, arrangement, instrumentation, and production of their work unconventional and innovative. Having finely tuned a sound that is very much their own, Lower Heaven have been turning the heads of their local peers, building a strong fan base, and creating a word of mouth buzz in Los Angeles for the past year.

Is post punk dead?

I really try to search out some old school post punker from the existing bands, but miserably fail to achieve. So can we say post punk is dead?
Everything should come to an end, maybe that's the answer.
Sigh.

In Camera [UK]

One of the first bands to be on the iconic 4AD label!
Born in London during the summer of 1978, they played a similar brand of post-punk.

In Camera came to Ivo’s attention when they opened a show for Bauhaus: displaying a spiky, P.I.L. , Joy Division and Section 25 influenced sound on their 1980 debut single "Die Laughing" (the first 4AD release engineered by John Fryer) the group had matured considerably by the time of their IV Songs EP at the end of the year.
The Fin EP was their 4AD epitaph: a Peel Sessions (BBC Radio 1) from 9 December 1980 which Ivo licensed from the BBC.

By 1982 the quartet had fallen apart.
Easily the band's strongest release, it featured the 12-minute monolith "Fatal Day".
Gray remained affiliated with the label, co-founding The Wolfgang Press in 1983, while In Camera briefly reformed in 1991 to record some new material for the compilation CD 13 (Lucky For Some).

Burning Image [US]

Burning Image are a Deathrock band from Bakersfield, California.

They were an anomaly in the punk pantheon of the 1980s. At the time, hardcore punk was the rage but was becoming formulaic and dumbed down as quickly as the songs were getting faster and shorter. Burning Image had more in common with the English "batcave" bands of the period like Specimen than any hardcore unit. Their goth sound, mixed with a heavy dose of theatrical sensibilities, caught the attention of Jello Biafra, who quickly championed the band as one of his favorites, and he was instrumental in getting Burning Image to open numerous times for the Dead Kennedys. Burning Image also did shows with 45 Grave, Specimen, Butthole Surfers, and Dr. Timothy Leary, just to name a few. The band put out a 7" single with the songs 'Final Conflict' and 'Burning Image, Burning'.

In 2003 Alternative Tentacles released a CD of Burning Image's early unreleased demos titled "1983-1987." The CD contains a whole album’s worth of songs from the sessions for the rare single "The Final Conflict" b/w "Burning Image, Burning" (along with the single itself, of course). Three tracks — "Gargoyles," "Anytime, Anywhere," and "Temptation" — were recorded in July 2003. The current Burning Image website has two new songs—"Haunted" and "Zealot"—written for a new Burning Image CD.

Burning Image have re-formed and release in May their new album titled "Fantasma."

The Drowning Season [US]

Formed in early 2000, The Drowning Season is a Baltimore, Maryland, gothic rock band consisting of Matt Slowikowski (vocals, programming), Michael “Chewka” Marchewka (guitars) and multi-instrumentalist Sideshow (taking on drum, bass and synth duties). Major influences include The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission (UK) and Fields of the Nephilim.

The debut full length HOLLOW was released in June 2002 on the Morphenic Release imprint. Live ventures followed and included performances alongside scene favorites like The Mission (UK), The Cruxshadows, Voltaire, Gene Loves Jezebel, Stromkern and Assemblage 23. Many of the songs on HOLLOW still receive generous club and gothic radio play, while the title track was included on both the M&A MusicArt compilation “Angel Child VI: The Need for Silence” and the Cop International issued “Dark Awakening: Volume 4.”

CURSE was the long awaited second full length album out this year.

Project:KOMAKINO [UK]

PROJECT:KOMAKINO - The Struggle for Utopia - 2009

Born out of the dark thoughts of a world that could have been… PROJECT:KOMAKINO began as the solo music project of Kris Kane in March 2007.

PROJECT:KOMAKINO was unveiled at the now legendary Experimental Circle Club in April 2007 and was received with high acclaim. Kris went on to play a number of gigs with the like minded up and coming of the time, such as Ipso Facto, Electricity In Our Homes and Ulterior. After a year of angst and frustrated yet enigmatic performances, the one man band evolved into what is now a four piece, with the addition of Oscar Maya on drums, Jamie McQuade on bass and Andrew Hiles on synthesizers.

The band has been referred to as a group of shadows, clad in uniforms of espionage and driven by the duende. With songs about dystopian futures and darker times, the music is disturbing and makes the skin twitch when watching their live performances. The music is heavily influenced by 70’s British Post Punk, Constructive Design and Dystopian literature. This in turn has created a dark reverberated sound, accompanied by relentless drum beats, haunting vocals and intangible lyrics.

Debut album of PROJECT:KOMAKINO - The Struggle for Utopia is out already!

Come to my SLSK acc: ambergw, if you want to dl this album.

Wallenberg [Fra]

Wallenberg is the second start for one of the most important bands in the French cold-wave scene, since Wallenberg revealed himself from 1984 to 1988 with many live records supporting Play Dead, Jad Wio, Neva and many more… and several featuring on compilations, radio shows and TV appearances, which revealed them to the French audience, before a premature split, although an album was planned with EMI.

Wallenbeg is back in 2004 with a new line up around Hervé (singer and co-composer) and the release of their first real album on Manic Depression Records. And their song also appeared on on the Strobelight Records compilation "New Dark Age Vol.3".

The Sunday Reeds [Aus]

The Sunday Reeds are a female-fronted noise pop/rock band named after 1930/40s Melbourne patron of the arts Sunday Reed. The love-child of some kind of rock 'n' roll orgy between The Jesus and Mary Chain, Joy Division, The Ramones and The Velvet Underground. Driving bass lines, plenty of guitar feedback, primitive rock beats and low, velvety female vocals. If Nico had joined The Ramones, strapped on a bass, and a whole lot more noise was added, this is how it might've sounded.

Debut album Drowning In History from Australia's finest purveyors of black clad, feedback and fuzz drenched pop/rock. Like the love child of some kind of rock n' roll orgy between The Jesus And Mary Chain, Joy Division and The Velvet Underground. If Nico had joined The Ramones, strapped on a bass guitar and a whole lot more noise was added, this is how it might have sounded.

George Dorn Screams [Pol]

George Dorn Screams - O'Malley's Bar 2009

George Dorn Screams is definitely a band for late evenings. This music is full of sincerity, calm and melancholy. George Dorn Screams is also energy coming from between post rock and slowcore. After their debut album called "Snow Lovers Are Dancing" they were called the forerunners of Serpentine Rock by Piotr Kosinski from Polish Radio 3rd Programme. "Mazzy Star meets Joy Division".

The band was created at the turn of 2005/2006. After only half a year of working on their material they decided to record it in Electric Eye Studio. In the meantime they appeared on “Songs from Bydgoszcz” with a song “The Woman with a Bow” among other bands such as: Ecstasy Project Trio, Dubska, Upside Down, Dezire, 3moonboys or Variete. They gave a promoting live performance in the 3rd Channel of Polish TV.

In July 2008 the band recorded the new material to be published on their second album in Elmwood Studio, Dallas, Texas. Sad Day For Puppets [Swe]

Sad Day For Puppets - Unknown Colors - 2009

Sad Day For Puppets was formed in 2006 in Blackeberg, a suburb to Stockholm (Sweden), by Martin Källholm, guitarist and songwriter. The natural focal point of the band is singer Anna Eklund, in it's turn leaning on Marcus Sandgren's ringing and fuzzy chords.

Most of the bands influences can be traced back to the early nineties, when they all were teenagers. This period has made it’s mark on the band. The guitars are once again allowed to roam free and shine. The music is all about shimmering layers of guitars, intertwined feedback melodies all dreamy and grand and sad, and ethereal harmony vocals.

The debut album "Unknown Colors" is just out this year.

The Social [UK]

The Social - A Call to Arms EP 2009

The Social are Laurence Hussey, Alfie Milner, Liam Westbrook & Stuee Bevan. Hailing from north London, they possess a raw and direct quintessential Englishness that is unnerving in its passion. Building upon their influences (Joy Division & The Smiths) The Social establish their own unique image. Driving, almost frenetic, drums bound tightly together by Laurences deep, operatic vocals and compelling bass lines, create a distinctive and gripping sound.

Alt-Ctrl-Sleep [US]

Alt-Ctrl-Sleep - The Earth Lens 2009

Alt-Ctrl-Sleep is a husband/wife duo consisting of Joe and April Diaco. Alt-Ctrl-Sleep started writing music together in January 2006.

"The music of Alt-Ctrl-Sleep is as sweet and seductive as Galaxie 500's and the lot of dreampop bands they birthed, but with a melodic pop punch that Dean Wareham's first group never quite mastered. Think My Morning Jacket with less baggage.

But for me, they are too dreamy to stay awake..

Her Vanished Grace [US]

Her Vanishing Grace - Blue (2009)

Her Vanished Grace bring you their brand of imaginative guitar rock. Nance and Chas Nieland, along with Maria Theodosiadou and Billy Loose continue to explore the terrain of sweet melodies and biting guitars. The powerful rhythms of Billy and Maria anchor the soaring textures while Nance and Chas spin tales of mystery and regret.

HVG 's new recording BLUE (2009) is dark urgent pop singed with white noise. They've crafted a sweetly menlacholic tableau of vivid memories with lush vocals and simmering tension. With Nance and Charlie’s guitar textures veering from candy colored swirl to vintage ‘60s bite, this is the blend of old and new that the band has been striving for. The Shadow Cabinet [US]

The Shadow Cabinet was created in mid 1999 by longtime Bay Area friends Todd Rhynes (drums)and Mark Sharp(bass). Out of an appreciation for goth pioneers such as the Sisters of Mercy and the jangly, unsettling sounds of Lords of the New Church, they have picked up where the icons of their past have left off. Todd and Mark already knew the sound they wanted with this project. The tribal yet melodic rhythm section was already in place and ready for the missing pieces. Soon, they enlisted the help of San Francisco native Michael Sessa, to bring a darkened textured approach. Lando Cerecedes was added for his unique guitar work which rounds out the sound and makes The Shadow Cabinet one of none.

The Shadow Cabinet's debut release "Solitude", is a dark rock master peice with songs touching on styles of heavy rock, gothic and pop. It displays great song writing skills, art and musicianship. Solitude was praised by critics around the globe.

Object [Fra]

This is more about coldwave flirting with post-punk. A great sense of melody. Swirling somewhere between The Chameleons and Mono with a touch of Joy Division and draped in the shadow of French coldwave

Mary Goes Round [Fra]

The first appearance of Jérôme Avril and Cécile Balladino together on stage in 86 at the Rex Club in Paris playing guest for Sonic Youth can be considered as the very début of Mary Goes Round, although the name was not here yet. Maurice (bass guitar) and Gilbert Correy (drums) who played a key role in the creation of the band having introduced Jérôme to Cécile were on stage with Jérôme (guitar/singer) and Cécile (keyboard), doing their first steps named Red Light.
This gig was the only event for the band at this time. They had no real projects when they were given the opportunity to have a song released on the compilation Unreleased volume I in 87. For this occasion, the Shelter was recorded and the name Mary Goes Round was chosen. This version of the Shelter is the only studio recording MGR ever did with a drummer.

Nothing really important happened then until MGR participation in the compilation Unreleased volume II one year later. MRG recorded the Nightmare, with a drum machine to replace Gilbert who was still in the band but absent.

After this second compilation, MGR decided to produce their own album without Gilbert who definitely left the band. MGR recorded a five songs demo that led the band to a distribution deal with New Rose , the famous independant French label record. Eventually, the mini-lp Sunset, was released in 89.
